Using a SIM free iPhone4S in Ethiopia

Using a SIM free mobile device, especially iPhone4S at Addis Ababa, ETHIOPIA.
Since beginning of June 2012, Ethiotelecom(Only one telephone operator) started 3G service within Addis Ababa. If subscriber already have SIM card, he/she needs to change the SIM card.

For subscribing 3G service, there is not data package.

3G service is available only Addis Ababa

Speed is just better than GSM. APN settings are following information.

• APN: etc.com
• username: blank
• password: blank

This 3G service is just useful for sending/receiving E-mail.

Buying SIM card is not easy. Sometime you need to submit resident ID of Ethiopia, sometime you just need to bring Passport copy and two passport size photo. Regulation is changing many times.

Surprisingly, Ethiotelecom announced "planning to start LTE service in Addis Ababa and extending 3G service whole Ethiopia with Huawei. There are no information about type of LET service.
